ADDITIONAL SERVICES Soil Testing –A complete organic soil analysis performed by a professional lab in Edinberg, Texas. This allows us to design a personalized treatment program based on your soils individual needs. It is also helpful for “Do it yourselfer's”. We will instruct the customer on how and when to apply the organic fertilizers if you decide not to use our services. Aeration – A core aeration will make the most of each watering and fertilization. This allows more air, water and nutrient penetration, for an overall healthier root system to expand through the soil. * Beneficial Nematodes – These microscopic organisms that live in the soil will attack the larvae of grub worms, fleas, ticks and fire ants. This application is done once a year to increase the Beneficial Nematode population. * Organic Mosquito Control – EcoSmart Technologies has developed an organic control product that uses a blend of plant oils that will help control a broad spectrum of insects. These ingredients consist of 10% rosemary oil, 2% peppermint oil and 88% oil of wintergreen, mineral oil usp, vanillian. * Mycorrhizal fungal inoculants – Deep- root injections into the soil which, allow additional uptake of water and nutrients needed for maximum growth and health of the root system. * Sick Tree Treatment – This treament consist of aerating around the tree, passed the drip line and adding soil amendments (compost, lavasand, greensand, cornmeal ect...). * Weed Control Organically or Chemically – We understand that weeds are very hard to control and most people want a monoculture lawn. You, the customer, will have the option to choose what kind of control is needed. We will help you understand both sides of the spectrum so you can make the correct decision. * Compost and Mulching * Overseeding and sod  Beneficial Nematodes – These microscopic organisms that live in the soil will attack the larvae of grub worms, fleas, ticks and fire ants. Compost and Mulching Overseeding and sod Watering TIPS Here are some general rules on watering your lawn in North Texas. Water deeply, not frequently. This will help encourage deep root penetration. Increment your watering to allow proper drainage and less run off, especially on sloped and low areas. Always adjust watering schedule when weather conditions are a concern: wind, rain, freezes, etc. This will help conserve water Winter Season (December, January, February) - Water 1 to 1.5 inches per section every 10 to 14 days apart. Do not water if freezing is expected. Spring Season (March, April, May) - Water 1 to 1.5 inches per section every 5 to 7 days apart. Water early morning between 3 am and 9 am. Summer Season (June, July, August) - Water 1 to 1.5 inches per section every 3 to 5 days apart. Water early morning between 2 am and 8 am. Fall Season (September, October, November) - Water 1 to 1.5 inches per section every 5 to 7 days apart. Water early morning between 4 am and 9 am. MOWING TIPS The two biggest mistakes people make when maintaining a lawn is mowing low and mowing with a dull blade. During the growing season St. Augustine and Bermuda lawns should be mowed 2.5” to 3.5” inches high. This will protect the soil, root system and help control weed germination. Think of a blade of grass as a solar panel. The more surface area available, the more energy is created. Photosynthesis, natures process of manufacturing sugars, carbohydrates and proteins - everything plants need to grow and develop a strong root system – happens when there is more available surface area. Therefore, a shorter lawn is more susceptible to disease and weed problems. Sharpen and clean the mowing blades monthly. When the area mowed is more than half an acre, you should then sharpen and clean after each mow. Maintenance companies should be sharpening and cleaning their mowing blades daily. Dull blades will create a dull, shredded look and will stress your lawns due to the North Texas heat. If you notice this look after a mowing, contact your maintenance company and ask about their procedure on maintaining their equipment. Hydrogen Peroxide (H202) is a good cleaning solution to use on your mowing blades (add 1oz of H202 to one gallon of water). Mulch mowing is recommended. Do not bag lawn clippings unless the lawn has not been mowed for several weeks. If you do have excess grass clippings, bag them up and put them in the compost pile. Remember that mulch mowing is adding additional organic matter back in to the soil. Why get rid of free fertilizer and work harder than you need to? When mowing a lawn on a weekly basis, please remember to change direction each time. One week mow vertically, then mow horizontally and finally diagonally. This process will eliminate rutting in the lawn. Last tip, DO NOT SCALP YOUR LAWN!! Unless you are planning to over seed the lawn with a winter grass, scalping your lawn is the most damaging thing you can do to the soil and root system. I see people do this and they always wonder why they have problems such as weeds, diseases and lack of vigor. When you expose more of the soil to sunlight and air, weeds have ample room to germinate and will even try to compete with the grass root system.
